OGCA Welcomes Senator Jon Husted Candidate For Secretary of State

Senator Jon Husted is a strong pro-freedom legislator, OGCA applicant and, just so happens, to also be running for Secretary of State.

He was first elected to the legislature in 2000, representing Ohio’s 37th House District. In 2005 and again in 2007, Husted’s colleagues honored him by electing him Speaker of the Ohio House. As speaker, Husted was responsible for all of the functions of the Ohio House. In addition, he served as the chair of the House Rules and Reference Committee and of the Joint Legislative Ethics Committee.

Serving in his first term in the Ohio Senate, Senator Husted continues to remain committed to making sure each child has the best opportunities available for a quality education and advocating for policies that will help improve Ohio’s economy and create better jobs.

An Ohio native, Husted attended the University of Dayton, where he earned All-American Defensive Back honors as a member of the 1989 Division III National Championship football team. After receiving his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at UD, Husted stayed in the Dayton area and worked for the Montgomery County Commissioners and later as Vice-President of Business and Economic Development at the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. It was while serving in this position that he decided to run for political office.

Husted resides in Kettering where he represents the 6th Ohio Senate district. After serving as Speaker of the House, Husted returned to work at the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and serves as the Director of Workforce Education and Employer Services. With all of his responsibilities, however, Senator Husted considers his most important roles as that of husband to his wife Tina and father to his children, Alex, Katie and Kylie.

Firearms Safety REQUIRED

The fundamental NRA rules for safe gun handling are:
ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. When inside a building, common sense usually dictates the ceiling to be the safest direction.
ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

The OGCA safety rules are contained in the Constitution / Bylaw / Rule Book. Members should contact us if you need another free copy.

Important safety factors include:
No person shall possess any loaded or primed firearm or air gun on your person or on the premises. Period - no excuses! This includes CCW. You will be escorted from the hall if you do not comply with the rules.
Inspect and unload all guns before you leave home.
All firearms must be checked, cleared and secured to make the firearm inoperable using plastic ties prior to member and firearm entering the meeting floor. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO SEE THAT THIS IS DONE.
Never point a firearm in an unsafe direction - act as if all guns are loaded.
All firearms must be immediately retied if removed for inspection.
Clips and magazines must be removed prior to entering hall.
All firearms brought to the meeting hall by members must be presented at the Gun Tie Desk at the entrance to be rechecked and retied if needed.
Tableholders must safety tie all firearms prior to the firearms being displayed, offered for sale or trade and prior to leaving them on a trade table.

Violation of any safety rule can result in suspension or termination. Do not risk your membership.

All state and federal firearms laws, and all safety rules of OGCA must be observed.

We will continue to mail the entire newsletter to members via bulk mail since it saves thousands of dollars in postage.

Reminders - tables must be maintained for both days.  All meetings begin at 8:00 AM Saturday and end at 2:00 PM on Sunday. Unless other arrangements are made before each meeting with an appropriate OGCA officer, for reasons other than convenience, tableholders are required to maintain their tables or display tables during the entire two-day period. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of table privileges. Also, Helpers assisting Tableholders during set-up MUST be a MEMBER or have a family badge.
